Aloha,

I will be on the Big Island later this week, and am planning on going to Green Sands Beach (I have been there two years ago, but paid someone in a truck to drive me in.)

This time I will have a Nissan Xterra 4X4, so I am wanting to drive in myself. I am looking for any ideas on which trails are the best to drive (i.e. won't tear the SUV in half.)

The last time I went, it was the gentleman whom drove me's first time, and the trail he took (closer to the coast line) was insanely difficult (he almost tore apart his 4runner.)

Any tips/details/ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Mahalo,
John

It's kind of a crap shoot. The higher trails(closer to the fence) are generally easier, but not always.

It's actually illegal to drive in there. The owner of the property (DLNR) allow people to hike in but they don't allow people to drive in. If your SUV is a rent-a-car than you also will be breaking your rental contract. Just FYI.

John,

Thanks for the info. My car is not a rental car, so I do not need to worry about it being a breach of contract.
