I have a friend who is currently vacationing on The Big Island. They are staying in a house at Puakea Ranch. I'm not familiar with the Hawi area.. . . Can any recommend some "must see" spots for them (they have 3 boys all under the age of 7). Thanks.

Well, one of my favorite must see/do spots IS Hawi. But Waipio Valley is a must see and probably close enough. Honokaa is right next door to Waipio. Then there is Kamuela in between. How about a Parker Ranch tour?

I forgot there is an awesome Farmers Market under the Banyon Tree in Hawi. It is not big but it is a nice one. Jeannie and I had a good time there. Also, a huge, if not the best Farmers Market in Waimea.

Check out this page: http://www.konaforum.com/farmers.html

Dave, Hawi and Waipio Valley are close to each other only on the map. You would have to take the Kohala Mountain Road to Waimea first, than drive onto Honokaa, and than "backpedal" to Waipio Valley.

I spent there a week long time ago. This is a little town, lot of artists live there. Nothing fancy but beautiful.
