We're starting to plan our Hawaii trip for this summer (either June or July). What are the 4th of July festivities like? It's so hot here in AZ at that time, so we never do much of anything. Perhaps that would be a good time to visit?
Also, right now I'm finding fares on Hawaiian for as low as $500 round trip from Phoenix to Kona for summer travel.

Hey Steph,

I hope you guys are still coming to the BI when I finally move back. I would love to meet you and your family!

Coming here in June and July is what we call the tourist season. Typically, the prices for everything is higher because they can get away with it. With that said, we are either out of the tourist season or close to being out. If you can make your plans now and get good rates then just realize June/July is the busiest time of the year for the island. And there are tourists everywhere. If you can deal with that then COME ON DOWN!!!!!

The 4th of July is the same here as any other day. We didn't even have a fireworks two years ago, they couldn't raise enough money to do it. (The resorts up North - Four Seasons, Hilton and Mauna Lani - do their own fireworks.) I'm not sure what prices Dave is referring to, maybe activities? The prices in the stores are pretty much the same, except the usual increases done by all stores on a regular basis.
PS. Dave, don't worry about Steph & Family not coming here in the future, they own a timeshare in Waikoloa.

I forgot that Steph has the timeshare. I was thinking of hotel prices.
