This Italian restaurant just opened in the Aloha Theatre building. We had two soups, one salad, one appetizer, four entrees and two desserts. While they have a wine list (no high-end wines) we decided to bring our own wine and pay the $15 corkage fee. Our overall dining experience was favorable, but it was disappointing to hear that they did not have several dishes from the already limited menu and they only had two portions of Tiramisu by the time we got to the dessert. (It wasn't a real Tiramisu though, and no other desserts were available except Gelato.)

We were served by two people, a lady and a young boy, who appeared to be her helper. Our waitress was very attentive but both servers are in a need of some training. Pouring wine across of the table is inexcusable in any restaurant, and the young boy cleaning the table also across the table while some of us were still eating is also inexcusable.

The portions were large and the quality of the food was very good. Prices are reasonable though the appetizers are not much cheaper than the main dishes. I was expecting fresh pastas but their pasta machine was broken. They did not have espresso either, which is a staple in any Italian restaurant.

This place has a nice decor and has the potential to be a nice upscale restaurant. Hopefully they will get over the usual problems associated with opening a new restaurant.

They closed the Kainaliu location and recently moved to Kona, in the Old Industrial area, across of the West Hawaii Today Building. They only have the lanai open, but they are expecting to get the final permit to open inside too.

Five of us had dinner there last night, after five different appetizers and five different entrees we didn't have much room for desserts. All the dishes were expertly prepared and nicely presented. They have a nice selection of Italian cocktails too. We took our wine there but they actually have a decent wine list.

While I still rank Paolo's in Pahoa as the #1 Italian restaurant on the island, Amici is pretty good too.
