This is a new restaurant at the Kona Marketplace. A very interesting concept, Japanese dishes served plate-lunch style. We had the Unagi Tamago Don, Katsu Don and Beef Curry yesterday, all dishes were very good. Almost all dishes are $5.00, an incredible bargain in Kailua-Kona!

I didn't realize I didn't feature this restaurant for such a long time. It's wonderful, I eat there every week, and it's very inexpensive too. (They are closed on Wednesdays.)

I forgot to mention that most dishes are $6.50 now, but it's good Japanese food! It's a small place, three tables indoors and two outdoors. They have lots of take-out business.

My wife and I ate here for dinner and I am VERY happy John recommended this place. When you walk up there is one table and two chairs outside. And two tables inside. The decor is very much like early Salvation Army. But the food was outstanding. I had the Katsu Don and there was too much food to finish. Both meals were $15 total with 2 waters. But I have to say the best thing about this place was the owner! She is one of the most delightful people you will ever meet!!! :) :) :) Before we left she introduced us to the chef (her husband). She really made our already great meal a great deal better!!!

This is another restaurant I eat at on a regular basis, at least once every two weeks. While the selection is not as extensive as at Hayama, this place is a hidden gem and a must visit for Japanese food lovers.

Unfortunately, the portions became about half the size of what they used to be, so I don't have the glowing recommendation of this place anymore. My Katsu Don Pork was exactly four strips of pork yesterday, which is about a half of what it used to be. Even my wife who eats like a bird complained that her Yakisoba was a small portion. While it's still very inexpensive to eat there, I would rather see an increase in price than a decrease of the portions.

Talk about pulling off a scam! Kimagure Cafe has been shot down. As it turns out, the restaurant had a cold-kitchen license only. No grease trap and no ventilation system. Yet, for five years, they got away with making hot food using a table top gas stove with a propane tank!
