I just returned from a two weeks vacation in Taiwan. I was really surprised to find Kau Coffee in one of the coffee places in Taichung! Unfortunately, nobody spoke English there so I could,'t find out what farm it was from. Worth to note, there was no Kona Coffee on the menu.

John, I wish you could have found out who that coffee was from.

There has been a lot of good marketing of the Ka'u coffees over the past couple of years. Rusty's Hawaiian seems to be in a lot of places all around the country, in addition to winning international coffee competitions. Also, the January Sunset magazine article about Ka'u has brought a lot of customers to Will and Grace.

Unfortunately, the land that many of these farmers have been leasing was recently sold, and they don't know if they are going to have to move. Would be a shame, after all the work they've done.

I tried because I was really curious, but it's so frustrating there, hardly anyone speaks English regardless of the claims of otherwise by the tourist guides, especially in secondary cities. Even in Taipei it's mostly just like scratching the surface. We had dinner in a French restaurant one day and when I complained to the waiter that my supposed risotto was just steamed rice, he said I could have had mashed potato instead. My wife had to explain it to him in Mandarin that it wasn't like I didn't like the risotto, it wasn't a risotto! :x :x :x
